What the Bible Says About Abortion

Note: I used the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible and put the words that are in italics in the KJV in brackets here. It makes Old English more understandable. I hope it helps you understand what the Bible says about this important subject.

As a Christian, I believe the Bible. This is what the Bible says about abortion and the child within the womb. Read this and see what you think the Bible says about it. Following each verse are my comments on that verse.

Genesis 3:16 "Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire [shall be] to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."

My comment: See what it says here? "I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception;" Not your hubby, not the lady involved here (Eve). I. God alone decides when conception takes place.

Exodus 21:22-25 "If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart [from her], and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges [determine].

23 "And if [any] mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,

24 "Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe."

My comment: If this is how they punish an accident, how do you think it will be received when a man aborts a child intentionally?

Judges 13:7 "But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean [thing]: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death."

My comment: If God doesn't know us, have plans for us, etc., from conception on, why does it say thusly so many times in the Bible?

Ruth 4:13 "So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son. [my caps.]"

My comment: Do you see what it says here? "The LORD gave her conception," not her husband. Not Boaz. Boaz didn't decide when a child would be conceived, God did. All Boaz wanted was a little roll in the hay.

Job 31:15 [Referring to Job's servant, Job said:] "Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?"

My comment: God is said to have made both Job and Job's servant, and to have "fashioned" both of them. Think about it; God made them both (conception is decided by God Genesis 3:16, Jeremiah 1:5) and "fashioned" them both -- that is decided who they would be, what they would like, what their personal preferences were to be. Don't you think God knows who's pregnant, by whom and what their circumstances are? Do you think He would put a baby where He would want it killed? Or, do you think God wants any babies killed at all? No. He doesn't.

Psalm 22:9-10 "But thou [art] he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope [when I was] upon my mother's breasts. {didst...: or, kept me in safety} 10 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou [art] my God from my mother's belly."

My comment: Here it is being acknowledged that God is the One who gives babies life; the One who was decided - from the womb - to be the God of the child (David) who wrote this Psalm.

Psalm 58:3 "The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies."

My comment: If the wicked are estranged from the womb, as it says in the Bible, then why doesn't God go ahead and abort them? Why doesn't God use His powers to kill the babies who are already wicked? Why should men take the power God decides not to execute? How can man be SO presumptuous as to think they have more wisdom, more discernment, more compassion than God?!

Psalm 71:6 "By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise [shall be] continually of thee."

My comment: God decided when the baby would be born, that the baby would be born and who the child is. Abortions always take away God's right to decide all this. Taking things away from God ALWAYS gets into dangerous territory for man.

Psalm 127:3-5 "Lo, children [are] an heritage of the LORD: [and] the fruit of the womb [is his] reward. 4 As arrows [are] in the hand of a mighty man; so [are] children of the youth. 5 Happy [is] the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate."

My comment: If this is God's idea of children, why are we not allowing Him to bless us? Why are people killing their blessings and rewards? Do they not know what the Bible says about children? Apparently not, or they wouldn't be having abortions.

Psalm 139:13-16 "For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

14 "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully [and] wonderfully made: marvellous [are] thy works; and [that] my soul knoweth right well.

15 "My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, [and] curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

16 "Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all [my members] were written, [which] in continuance were fashioned, when [as yet there was] none of them."

My comment: If this verse is true (and I believe ALL Bible verses are true), then God made the child be conceived (even though the mother and father were having sex in a "secret" place). He also fashioned, and made the child's individual parts - arms, legs, heart, lungs, brain, etc., etc., etc. - to be written and fashioned even though "as yet there was none of them." God made the child. God made the conception. God made the decision as to what the arms, legs, etc., would look like. God. Not man. Not the mother and father. God. Only, always, singularly. God.

Ecclesiastes 11:5 "As thou knowest not what [is] the way of the spirit, [nor] how the bones [do grow] in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all."

My comment: "If we knowest not how "the bones do grow in the womb", then how can we be smart enough to decide who should die within the womb and who should not? Are you ready to take that judgment and make it? Are you ready to be bold enough to decide for God who should live and who should die? What if you're destroying the next Einstein, Elvis, or the person who would find a cure for AIDS if allowed to live? We don't understand so much about what happens to a child within the womb, how can we begin to think we're smart enough to decide who to kill within the womb?

Isaiah 44:2 "Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, [which] will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen."

My comment: God made Jacob. God makes us all. Who are we to go against God? Who are we to destroy an innocent child when God decided that child should be there? There are other scriptures that back up this claim: Isaiah 44:24 and Isaiah 46:3, specifically. There are others.

Isaiah 48:8 "Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time [that] thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb."

My comment: If God knows who is evil from the womb, don't you think He knows who should live and die from within the womb?

Isaiah 49:1 "Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name."

My comment: God knew the name of the writer while the writer was still inside the mother's womb? That means that before we are born, God knows our names! Think of that! God knew before you were born that your legal name would be whatever it is, and that your nickname would be whatever it is. How many people of your name have been aborted, I wonder?

Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, [and] I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."

My comment: Need I say it again? "Before I" who is "I"? "I" in this sentence is GOD, not the Mommy and Daddy. Not the grandpas and grandmas. I = God. Before God formed thee in the belly [of the mother] God knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb [of the mother] God sanctified thee, [and] God ordained thee a prophet unto the nations (paraphrased, of course). Don't you see? It's not only David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, etc., God made, fashioned, knows before their birth, it's ALL of us. God made us ALL. He loves us while we are still just four cells growing and dividing inside our Mom's body. Do we have the right to kill that?

Luke 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

My comment: This refers to John the Baptist. If abortion is okay, then how can a baby be "filled with the Holy Ghost even from his mother's womb"? If babies are "not human" from the time they are conceived, then how could this child, John the Baptist, get filled with the Holy Ghost while still in the womb? Do cats and dogs have the ability to be filled with the Holy Ghost? No? How about pigs and monkeys? No? How about blobs - do blobs have the ability to be filled with the Holy Ghost, even though science currently says that a zygote isn't human yet? What if science is wrong? I believe God over science EVERY time. If John the Baptist wasn't human within the womb, he couldn't have received the Holy Ghost.

Acts 3:2-8 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. 4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted [him] up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God."

My comment: God knew how this man's bones were forming: we know that from the verses above. We also know that if this man weren't born this way, Peter wouldn't have gotten the chance to heal him and God wouldn't have gotten the glory. We know there are a lot of babies out there who face tremendous hardships. However, with God's help, some discipline and love at home, a decent education and some hope and encouragement from their families and others, people can make it big time and they can go on to make it well enough to make a difference in the lives of other people. People can persevere and struggle through the rough times. But only if they're alive to try.

Do you see what the Bible says? Can you see that the Bible, the Word of God, says that every child conceived is His work? Can you acknowledge that? If God decides when a child is conceived, then do you think He did that creative work for nothing? Do you think He wasted the time and energy to give that unwed mother, that crackhead girl, that worried-about-her-figure rich woman a child so that they could decide to undo His work and have it sucked down a sink after tearing it limb from limb? Is that who God is to you? Does He enjoy wasting His time, in your opinion of Him? If not, then you need to rethink your position on abortion. Because my understanding on Him is that He doesn't waste His time, energy, creative power, nor His punishment.

There is something else to consider as well. What did the baby inside the womb do to anyone to deserve to be killed? The child did not decide to be conceived. The child didn't decide for the two people making it to have intercourse. The child didn't rape the mother and impregnate her against her will with itself. The child didn't choose to be deformed. The child didn't choose to be inconvenient. The child didn't decide to make its mother lose her figure. The child didn't decide to be one too many mouths to feed. The child -- the one who gets killed -- did nothing to deserve punishment. This is the worst punishment the world can dish out to someone, and the ways abortion are done -- if done to a born being who has reached adulthood -- would be considered torture. And yet, in today's society, it is considered acceptable to tear a child in utero limb from limb so that the mother can have "freedom of choice." That "freedom of choice" equals cruel, torturous murder. Why does the mother get free choice to do this to her child? What did the child do that was wrong enough to deserve this?

Advocates for abortion -- they call themselves pro-choice, but allow only one choice: abortion -- will scream that the mother's body is hers to do with as she wishes. Problem being, it's not the mother's body that gets pulled apart. If the mother chose to pay someone to do that to herself, that would be free choice. (It would also be very stupid, but it would be free choice.) However, she is not choosing to do that to her body. It is her child's body: an innocent soul whose only "sin" is to have been conceived at the wrong time, wrong place, with the wrong mommy. So for this, we tear a child limb from limb and suck it into a sink because the mommy has the "right" to do it. (By the way, read the United States Constitution, the supposed "Right to Privacy" is NOT in there.)

Please pray about what you have read here. I know it isn't easy. But, please, do pray. Ask God to convict your soul of what is right in His eyes and to keep you from evil. I believe in your willingness to listen, and I believe in His willingness to tell. Just ask. That's all it will take.

"What if the mommy doesn't want the baby to be "leaching" off of her for nine months? That's her body being used as an incubator, her energy being used to feed the baby. What if she doesn't want to do that for the baby?" is the most recent argument for abortion advocates (The hangar argument has been used as well, "Never again!" even though it was not used that often in the first place.) As we read above, the way God designed things, this is the way it works. If the mother wants choice, she had the choice of saying "No!" to sex (except in cases of rape, which the conception numbers are infinitesimally small for due to the trauma of the rape). That's a choice. She chose not to do that. Should she be "saddled" with the baby due to a momentary lapse in judgment in the "heat of passion"? She always has the option of giving the baby up for "incubation" in the uterus of an infertile couple. She has the choice of carrying the baby for nine months and giving it up for adoption. She has the choice of not getting pregnant in the first place; birth control methods are pretty reliable nowadays. If a woman chooses not to avail herself of these choices, and chooses abortion instead, she is choosing to murder an innocent baby of her own flesh and blood. This is something she will have to live with for the rest of her life.

What kinds of consequences may a woman who chooses abortion face? Well, there are serious consequences to herself that she may wish to consider. The emotional trauma of seeing the little arms and legs in the container they dispose of the baby in will be enormous. To see the reality of abortion, go to the Silent Scream's homepage and watch a film of what an abortion does to a baby in utero. You will be awakened to the truth. Warning: This film is NOT for children, nor the easily nauseated.

Some women hate themselves for the rest of their lives and never forgive themselves. Some women go into deep depression. Some numb themselves with drugs and alcohol. Some women act as if it doesn't matter; what they did was not a bad thing, it was just an "inviable mass of tissue." However, they cannot hide what they did from God. And their souls know that, whether they choose to consciously accept the fact that God is real or not. So they face the eternal consequences as well.

Then there are the physical consequences. Did you know that for every abortion a woman has, that her risk of developing breast cancer increases? There are several resources to verify this connection. Look at the truth in these web sites:

If this is something the woman knew about, would she choose breast cancer in order to have her abortion? Since most women don't know about this, how can they make the right choice for themselves, much less for their unborn child?

This is the truth about abortion. God hates it. It destroys His creations -- the little babies He made. The mother suffers emotionally, spiritually and sometimes physically, even if it isn't something she can relate to the abortion. But this is the truth. Every child is created by God. Every child is a gift from God. Every child, according to the United States Constitution and the Bible, has the Right to Life.

What you believe about abortion matters because you may one day conceive a child, or father a child. Whatever your situation, knowing the facts will help you make a wiser choice. I pray this page has educated you and will enable you to make the choice God would have you make. I pray you choose life: for yourself and for your child.
